In the News:
Today’s fast-paced increasing global society necessitates that our students be fluent in the latest technologies and program advancements. However, the need for improvements and updates far outpaces available finances.
The cost of purchasing district wide curriculum for one course, for one grade level ranges from $500,000 - $1 million. Because our school district is not allowed to raise taxes above our state-defined levy lid, and is under-funded by the state, it can not afford to purchase new curriculum as quickly as our neighboring districts, nor as quickly as our community expects and our students deserve.
Case in point: Issaquah School District’s biology curriculum is 10 years old, yet we are not slated to purchase new curriculum because we can’t afford it.
