A new alumni directory is on its way!

The Issaquah School District and Issaquah Schools Foundation have teamed with Harris Connect, located in Virginia, to compile a comprehensive alumni directory that will help us connect with generations of Issaquah School District graduates across the nation and world.

Please be aware that all graduates will likely be contacted by Harris Connect in the next week or two to determine whether they would like to be included in the directory, to confirm their information is correct and if they would like to purchase a directory. If you are an alumnus and would like to proactively confirm your preference and information, you can call the Issaquah School District line at Harris Connect in Virginia: 800-366-6249.

If you do not wish to be included in the directory you must notify Harris Connect either via the phone or in writing. To be added to the Harris Connect Do Not Call List, please call 888-201-1301.

Who is Harris Connect?

Harris Connect is a privately held, for-profit directory publishing company, with a big focus on school alumni. It was founded in 1963 with roughly 1000 employees. It has a B+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Why did ISF/ISD partner with Harris Connect?

The mission of the Foundation is to drive resources to help all students achieve the promise of their potential. We came to the realization a few years ago that we were missing a great opportunity by not connecting with our alumni like universities and private schools do. We hope to develop a network of alumni who can assist our current students with job shadowing opportunities, perspectives on a particular college experience, provide industry perspective as classroom speakers and expand our network of VOICE mentors. We also hope to help you connect with your fellow classmates.

The District and the Foundation have neither the expertise nor the money to build an up-to-date alumni directory on its own, so when Harris Connect contacted us, we were intrigued. As we explored the project, it seemed like a win-win solution for the District, Foundation and alumni.

We gave Harris Connect all of our alumni information -- in some cases including 50 year old home addresses. They do all the work of contacting alumni, getting updated information, and producing an updated Directory. The Foundation and District receive an electronic copy of the directory for our use, and Harris Connect strives to make a profit by selling enough copies of the print and/or CD version of the Directory to individual alumni (see purchase below).

Once the Directory is complete, the Foundation will have the capacity to provide some assistance to reunion organizers:

1. we will be able to give them an updated list of classmates, and
2. we will provide a web page where fellow classmates can discover and stay informed about their reunion status

When will the Directory Project be completed?

Harris Connect has told us that the Directory project will be completed in January 2010.

How will my information be used?

The District and Foundation take your privacy seriously.

You do not have to participate in the Directory Project, and we are happy to remove your information from our ISF Alumni database.

Directories will only be sold to Alumni or immediate family members of alumni.

The directory will contain “decoy listings” to prevent unauthorized use of the information.

If you do want to participate, you can include as much or as little of your information in the directory as you like.

At a minimum, your name and class year will be included in the Print and CD versions of the directory. The District and Foundation will also receive your home mailing address.

You are welcome to provide additional information. Harris Connect will give you the opportunity to provide your:

• Home Phone Number
• Email Address
• Job Title
• Company Name
• Company Address
• Company Phone Number
• Up to two college degrees
• The names of your spouse and children

At a minimum, we would love to have your email address, as email is much easier, faster, and less expensive for the Foundation. We anticipate sending at most two emails per year.

How do I purchase a Directory?

Please be assured you are under no obligation to purchase anything from Harris Connect even though they will tell you it will benefit the Foundation and District.

Do any of the proceeds from a Directory purchase go to the Foundation or District?

No.

Harris Connect bears all the costs -- and risks -- of collecting, organizing, and publishing both the print and electronic (CD) versions of the Directory.

The Foundation and District receive no money from Harris Connect. The benefit to the Foundation and District of this project is obtaining an up-to-date Directory of alumni, and alumni have the opportunity -- not the obligation -- to purchase a print and/or electronic version of the Directory.
